Michael Russo is a freelance fashion stylist working in New York. His career began as a sophomore at the University of Southern California with a chance introduction to author and vintage dealer Cameron Silver, who offered him a weekend sales position at the Hollywood fashion mecca Decades. It was there that he gained an appreciation for the craft and quality of designers like Halston and Ossie Clark, while mingling with an eclectic clientele of collectors, designers, stylists, and film costumers. After graduating with a degree in political science, Michael became the assistant to Hollywood stylist Cristina Ehrlich, preparing clients like Penelope Cruz, Amy Adams, and Toni Collette for red carpet engagements around the world; his experience in fashion editorial began soon after, when visiting editors like Rushka Bergman and Mary Alice Stephenson tapped him to assist on shoots for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue Italia, and Elle.
In 2010, Michael began working as GQ's west coast assistant, and soon relocated to New York to begin styling at the magazine full-time. Working alongside photographers like Mario Testino, Terry Richardson, Sebastian Kim, and more, he has contributed to some of the magazine's most iconic fashion editorials, featuring talent like Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Rihanna, Mila Kunis, Jay-Z, Michael Fassbender, James Franco, Emma Stone, and Jimmy Fallon. Michael returned to freelance styling in 2013 with a roster of clients including Justin Timberlake, Zachary Quinto, and Kate Upton; he also provides editorial and creative direction for emerging designers and leading online retailers alike.
